During the early 1950’s Abu Garcia began selling fishing reels and other fishing products. Their first spinning reel, built in Sweden, the Abu-444, was made available in 1955.
In 1957 the company’s special fishing reel was introduced and they became known for the Abumatic — an advanced spin cast reel. This fishing reel had outstanding features like the level-wind — oscillating spools, an under rod spin cast reel design and much improved drags which worked better for larger game fish.
Abu Garcia released their famous Ambassadeur series of bait casting reels in 1964. These amazing fishing reels feature advanced metal alloys, ball-bearing friction interfaces, and precise cut gears. Ambassadeur series models are still being sold by the company.
Abu Garcia fishing reels are also very popular among fishing reel collectors.
